You Ain’t No Picasso’s Favorite Concerts of 2012

December 26th, 2012 by Matt

#35: The Head and the Heart @ Forecastle [Original Post] I’d heard a song or two by Head and the Heart going into their show at Forecastle, but I’ll admit that I was really just seeing them because there wasn’t a lot of competition for their time slot at Forecastle. But just like what happens [...]

RZA + Black Keys: “The Baddest Man Alive”

October 11th, 2012 by Matt

In what is likely the closest thing we’ll get to a second Blakroc album, RZA enlisted the Black Keys for a team-up for The Man With the Iron Fist soundtrack. If you’re all for assaulting the fiercest of the animal kingdom, this track’s for you. Stream “The Baddest Man Alive” at Fuse

[video] the Black Keys: “Gold on the Ceiling”

June 1st, 2012 by Matt

This isn’t one of the weirdest music videos ever, but when you consider how incredibly popular the Black Keys and this song are… you’ve got to admire their guts. Here’s “Gold on the Ceiling,” directed by Harmony Korine.

[video] Black Keys + John Fogerty cover “The Weight” at Coachella

April 22nd, 2012 by Matt

This was one of the best moments of Coachella’s Friday night. The Black Keys made mention of the recently deceased Levon Helm while on stage. After a quick “rest in peace,” they brought out Creedence Clearwater Revival’s John Fogerty to cover The Band’s classic “The Weight.” Great performance and a great tribute.

You Ain’t No Picasso’s Favorite Albums of 2011

December 19th, 2011 by Matt

#30: Fishboy – Classic Creeps MP3: Fishboy – Aaron the Afterthought Astronaut I don’t know which I find more impressive: that this album effortlessly weaves witticisms through incredible melody or that the entire album tells a complexly involved story. It’s easy to be dismissive of some pop records, but labels like “simplistic” just don’t stick [...]

[video] The Black Keys chat with Stephen Colbert

December 7th, 2011 by Matt

Normally I’d post a band’s performance from a late night show, but this chat between Stephen Colbert and the Black Keys is too good to not share. The Keys share their thoughts on Akron, OH and reveal that they picked the title El Camino more or less at random. Watch their performance of “Lonely Boy” [...]

You Ain’t No Picasso’s favorite songs of 2011

December 5th, 2011 by Matt

2011 was (another) odd year for music. It felt like the average quality of albums was raised a bit, but nothing really stood out as a life-changing album or single of the year. Still, there was a lot of great music to be heard. Here’s fifty of my favorite tracks from the year, ranging from [...]
