BBC radio DJ Zane Lowe premiered two new Arcade Fire songs on his program today. We got “Speaking in Tongues,” a quick interview with Win Butler and then “Culture War.” The internet being what it is, we didn’t have to wait long for them to pop up again.
Well this is just about perfect. It’s not the first time the Arcade Fire have covered this song (as my collection of AF covers will attest), but it’s the first time they’ve done it with Cyndi. The collaboration went down at New Orleans’ Jazzfest this weekend.
The Arcade Fire performed a surprise show in Haiti this week. While there, they did covers of CCR, the Rolling Stones, Cinci Lauper and Blondie. Aside from being a very cool thing to do, this gives us a couple covers to add to the Arcade Fire covers archive.
Now that it’s official that the Arcade Fire will be making their return to the stage, I figured it’d be fun to add them to the long list of covers archives I’ve put together. So sure, everyone knows the Arcade Fire used to do a mean cover of the Talking Heads, but did you know they’ve done Smiths, Clinic and Sam Cooke covers?
The Arcade Fire covers archive :: 18 covers and counting!
Thanks to the Torture Garden and the fine folks at the Us Kids Know message board for making this possible and a lot easier. If you’ve got any covers I’m missing, leave a link in the comments or email them on over!
