After teasing us for weeks with the Pretend to be BOAT covers album, BOAT have finally released a song from their upcoming Pretend to be Brave LP. “Inside An Aquarium” details life in the rainy northwest and the accidents it can cause.

BOAT have tagged this as “sloppy pop” on Soundcloud and it’s not a bad choice of label. There’s no overthinking in BOAT’s production; they live and die on their songwriting and that’s what I love about their take on pop songs. They could have dressed the song up more, but then I might not have paid such attention to their lyrics until the third or fourth listen: “You cried when you realized it was good just to be alive.”
