Matt Duncan played this new song when I saw him open for Nick Diamonds at the Modern Motel. Of all the new songs he played live, this was probably my favorite. I haven’t had his new album Soft Times long enough to really say what my favorite track is, but this one’s up there.

If you haven’t heard Matt Duncan yet, there’s a chance you’ll be a little turned off to his music when you hear me describe it. I use references like Steely Dan, Billy Joel and other groups that aren’t sure-fire sellers. But Matt and his band are so much more than the sum of their influences — they’re a distillation of everything that made them great. Soft Times is a well-curated trip through 70s and 80s AM radio that I’m happy to take again and again.
