Charles Bradley @ Forecastle 7.15.12
August 1st, 2012 by Matt

I didn’t remember who Charles Bradley was until he took the stage. I recognized his laid back style from the cover of his new album No Time For Dreaming. Having seen Lee Fields at SXSW, I was ready for another dose of vintage soul from the guys who’ve been doing it longer than anyone else. Bradley was a comparable performer to Fields; they both really sell their performance with a lot of passion rather than a lot of energy. Plus it helps to have a great backing bad. After my time in the photo pit was over, I went to the press area and listened to the rest of Charles Bradley’s set. I wish we had a musician like this in Lexington; I’d go see him play every weekend.

It probably still won’t be as good as Charles Bradley’s set, though. That was one of the weekend’s highlights.

I will have to check out Lee Fields, thanks for the tip! Charles Bradley has got me wanting more of the same. Was definitely a top 3 performance at Forecastle in my book!

Just picked up the 2012 SXSW sampler for free on amazon mp3, complete with “You’re the Kind of Girl” by Lee Fields. Good call Matt, you never steered me wrong.
