?uestlove’s Super Jam (ft. D’Angelo + more) @ Bonnaroo 6.9.12

I had a great time at the ?uestlove-curated Bonnaroo Super Jam, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that there were thousands who would have killed to be in my place… and deserved it more.

The show was a great demonstration of skill and love for their craft, but the names on stage meant next to nothing to me. To me, D’Angelo is more likely to be an odd Tom Haverford reference than someone I’d see performing. I knew zilch about the guy. And while we had The Time guitarist Jesse Johnson and Prince’s saxophonist, Eric Leeds, they were both just titles to me; I had no idea who they were.
But is that really a requirement to enjoy Super Jam? Absolutely not. Bonnaroo is all about “hey, come check this out” even if it’s completely foreign to you — especially if it’s completely foreign to you. And while I didn’t know a lot of the performers, I knew the classic songs they chose to cover: “Hit it And Quit It” (Funkadelic), “What Is and What Should Never Be” (Led Zeppelin), “She Came In Through the Bathroom Window” (The Beatles). Classic songs by a group with a few classic songs between them as well.

If you’re looking for some new tunes, you should give Usher’s newest album “Looking 4 Myself” a try! It is definitely worth checking out on via this MTV Music Review: http://on.mtv.com/MBp1r4 and then you can buy it on iTunes if you love it: http://bit.ly/M2P6ih !
