[SXSW] Blitzen Trapper @ the Mohawk 3.17.12
April 5th, 2012 by Matt

Even though Blitzen Trapper have kept themselves insanely busy since signing to Sub Pop years ago, I haven’t seen them in concert since Pitchfork 2009. I can’t really say that they’ve gotten any better or worse, but they’ve now got a lot more to choose from when filling out their setlists. Thankfully they played “Black River Killer,” not only my favorite song of theirs, but a song that’s quickly shot up the ranks of my all time favorite songs. Any time I hear that song my face lights up; I can imagine I looked like a grinning fool when its number came up in the set.
Additionally, their newer material sounded a bit better live. Songs I was on the fence about — like “Love It When You Walk Away” — seemed way more enjoyable in a live set. Maybe it was the fun atmosphere or the fact that I’m usually more critical about albums than live shows. Whatever it was, it made for a really fun show.
