Wax Fang as Velvet Underground @ Cosmic Charlies 10.29.11
November 3rd, 2011 by Matt

There’s a huge range of Velvet Underground material, so you can imagine our uncertanty as they took the stage on Saturday. Would it be the hits? Would it be their crazier, longer material that began to hint at the madness Lou Reed would later do in his solo career? It was actually a bit of both sides.

Luckily (for me), they were heavy on the pop side of Velvet Underground: “Rock and Roll,” “Femme Fatale,” “White Light/White Head,” “I’m Waiting for the Man.” But we also got a few of the VU songs that are a bit harsher for people who aren’t already fans, but remain their most critically acclaimed work (“Heroin,” “Venus in Furs”). I loved every choice, even when they brought out one of the guys from The Deloreans to read the incredibly long text for “The Gift.”
