ear X-tacy has closed for good

October 31st, 2011 by Matt

After 26 years of catering to the Louisville community, local record store ear X-tacy has called it quits. The store was closed unexpectedly on Saturday and Sunday, with the store’s twitter account closed and deleted during the same time. Suspicions the store had closed were confirmed when storeowner John Timmons released a statement today on the store’s Facebook page.

In 2010 ear X-tacy moved from their longtime home on Bardstown road to a much smaller shop. The store is the subject of a documentary due out later this year, Brick and Mortar and Love. Watch the trailer for that here.

Record stores have been closing for years now, but Ear X-tacy is one of the major national stores that have found troubles this year. Atlanta’s Criminal Records announced they will be closing unless things turn around. There are numerous “Save Criminal Records” fundraising events in Atlanta hoping to turn around the record store’s fortunes.
