[mp3] Jens Lekman: “An Argument With Myself”
August 4th, 2011 by Matt

Finally! Hearing the announcement of a new Jens Lekman EP with no audio to go with it was minor torture. Now we’ve got the title track from An Argument With Myself to put on repeat until Sept 20.
MP3: Jens Lekman – An Argument With Myself
I thought about posting this without comment, but feel I owe Jens a little more than that. I don’t really feel that this song suits him. Obviously if he really feels that this is the kind of music he wants to make, then it’s what suits him. But this fast late-era Talking Heads backing track makes his vocals feel rushed during the chorus. My favorite Jens songs are the ones where the instrumentals are jumping, but Jens is still as cool as Frank Sinatra (“Sweet Summer’s Night on Hammer Hill” “You Are The Light”). This sounds like a not-quite-there Peter Bjorn and John song.

it’s a nice when a fan is actually honest when posting a song. it seems like the majority of writers just want to praise praise praise but rarely give an honest opinion when it’s even remotely critical. I dig it. Lekman’s great, i just hope the EP is a stronger showing than this…and your right if this is what he wants to make at least he’s being loyal to himself. i wonder how many artists that could truly be said about?
