Man Man @ Bonnaroo 6.11.11

June 21st, 2011 by Matt

Of all the incredible things about Man Man’s show, this is the most unbelievable: there are no diminishing results. I’ve seen them many, many times over the years and each show has been fantastic. Sure, some are better than others (the ’09 Halloween show was a favorite) but they’ve all been well above what you can expect from most any other band.

And though I decided to run off after the first three Man Man songs to catch the end of Portugal. The Man’s set (hey, I’d only seen them once before) I knew this was going to be another in a long series of great Man Man shows. They passed out 3D glasses before taking the stage — a move that made me laugh for the absurdity and the several silly motives you could give to the action of passing out 3D glasses at a live event. It was quite a little thing, but it’s those little things that make Man Man shows so great.

Another quick note: as much as I love getting new material in a live setting, I’m actually the opposite at Man Man shows. Their songs are so quick that I love to soak them up at home before taking them in at a concert. So that’s why I think “Piranhas Club” sounded ten times better than any other time I’ve seen it. I knew it well so I was able to enjoy it rather than focus too hard on it.
