Ratatat @ Bonnaroo 6.10.11
June 14th, 2011 by Matt

This review is going to be one of those unfortunate instances wherein the show was incredible — but you wouldn’t know it from my photos. I’d heard a lot about Ratatat’s shows, so I knew a bit of what to expect, and it was as incredible as I’d been led to believe. Even tired, sober and run down, I enjoyed the hell out of their Bonnaroo show.
I guess the first thing to understand about Ratatat’s show is that it isn’t about them. There are no stand-on-the-monitor solos. No strobes pointed at them. They play in incredibly dim light with insane projections of birds and Predator scenes behind them. They also have plexiglass sheets on either end of the stage. When the projectors shoot through them, it looks like a Star Wars type hologram. These seemed to be used mostly for putting two classically dressed string players on both sides of the band. It was a really creative effect.
I called it a night about 30 minutes into Ratatat’s set (being that it was 3AM) but I can’t wait until I can catch them them for a full set!
