the Arcade Fire @ Bonnaroo 6.10.11
June 13th, 2011 by Matt

After Arcade Fire’s Bonnaroo performance, I was quick to claim that it was way better than their Lollapalooza show from last year. The problem is, I can’t really put my finger on what it was that was so different about it. I suppose it’s likely that the Suburbs material has grown on me a bit. Last year I was still a little saddened that their third LP was my least favorite, but by now I’ve accepted it for what it is and quite enjoy it. When “Ready to Start” and “Month of May” came up in the set, I was genuinely excited for their inclusion.

There was, however, an unselfish reason I enjoyed Arcade Fire’s set a little more this year. It seemed like they were enjoying it more. I’ve seen them look like they’re taking things beyond seriously (Lolla), but this was one of their fun concerts. Aside from the smiles and enthusiasm, Win even threw in some good natured crowd teasing, yelling out “Alright you hippies, let’s do this!” before a song.
