Sleigh Bells @ Bonnaroo 6.9.11

June 10th, 2011 by Matt

Asking me details about Sleigh Bells’ set is like asking me the color of my opponent’s eyes after a fistfight — and that’s without the actual fistfight that happened.

Sleigh Bell’s crowd was easily the biggest of Thursday night. There were thousands and thousands of people spilling out of their tent and crowding into the surrounding area. I had to beg, cheat and push my way to the photo pit entrance, arriving just in time to find myself in an even more crowded area.

Strangely, all the negatives of the atmosphere — overcrowding, photographer fights — were symptoms of their huge popularity and exciting live show. Derek and Alexis make a powerful duo for only having one instrument on stage. Also I’ve made up my mind to only see them at night. They’re fine in the sun, but the light show (even the strobe light, the photographer’s enemy) really makes their energy jump beyond the first few rows into the rest of the audience.

Fingers crossed for some new material soon.

More photos after the break
