With roots that go back to the early ’90s, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion took a hiatus circa 2005, after a relatively long and prolific career that involved working with a diverse and completely nonlinear collection of artists, including R.L. Burnside, Beck, Steve Albini, Elliott Smith and Dan the Automator. In 2010, they embarked on a rebound tour (and subsequently landed deal doing a Volkswagon Super Bowl commercial).

Their sound has accurately been described as “taking cues from rock, punk, r&b, garage, hardcore, and hip hop idioms, while transcending the limitations of each,” and they have headlined a number of premiere boutique U.S. festivals, including Pitchfork and All Tomorrow’s Parties – seeing them at Buster’s will be a treat for veteran fans and curious newcomers alike. Local up-and-comers Arcane Rifles (new trio featuring Ben Allen, J. Marinelli and Phillip Farmer) open.
