[MP3] Elephant 6 Holiday Surprise tour covers Sun Ra
February 28th, 2011 by Matt

Sloan over at Southern Shelter posted a bootleg of the Elephant 6 Holiday Surprise show in Atlanta. Included among the dozens of great songs is this cover of Sun Ra’s “Enlightenment.” It’s some jazz madness at the end of a ton of great rock and pop. Enjoy!

It was the last song of the show, someone wrote out the lyrics and put them in front of the stage so everyone could read/sing them. They ended it with walking off stage while still singing. Such a great show. Thanks for posting this.

Wow! It’s even better after hearing that story. Those Holiday Surprise shows are always wonderful. Wish we’d had BP at ours…

I know, I love all the guys that played but BP is definitely noteworthy among them. Where’d you see them? I think my favorite part about it was that they played at Whirlyball Atlanta, which is in the basement level of this abandoned strip mall… creepy on the outside, warm and fuzzy on the inside. They played whirlyball with some people from the audience during the intermissions. (Whirlyball is kind of like basketball on bumper carts, ha!)
I have a video of them performing OTC’s “Define a Transparent Dream” (one of my favorites!!!) that night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBA1H6mjiVw
