[MP3] Wooden Wand: “The DNR Waltz” (demo) // funding next LP with Kickstarter donations

January 10th, 2011 by Matt

Wooden Wand, Lexington’s newest addition to our musical community, is funding his next album with the help of Kickstarter donations. He’s been nice enough to provide us with a demo of a song that’ll be on the record, as well as some explanation on the project. There’s a lot of great opportunities for Wooden Wand fans, so if you’re a fan I’d hit that link to see what all he’s offering.

MP3: Wooden Wand – The DNR Waltz (demo)

Wooden Wand had this to say about the project:
I was recently invited to record for a split 7″ with my friend Duquette Johnston (formerly of Verbena) and his band the Gum Creek Killers, for release on the Communicating Vessels label. Instead of just sending Duquette a track I had in the archives, Duquette suggested I visit him in Birmingham and we record our sides together, from scratch, with the same band. It was one of the most positive recording experiences I’ve ever had, and I immediately wanted to make a whole record this way.

The idea is to release the album on limited edition vinyl, and then offer downloads. The money raised would be used for studio time, travel accommodations, mixing, mastering, and 500 LPs with professionally printed sleeves. We also need to feed everybody. We’re hoping to exceed our goal, and we are undershooting quite a bit to meet it no matter what. Our actual goal is closer to the $7,000-$8,000 range, but we’re testing the waters here. I think this record will be a great one.

a knowing formula that breaks the mould…you know what your getting , when w/wand sings impeccable songs with thought provoking lyrics …

the chord progression is shit i’ve seen in thousands of other songs. shit go to aol music and put in the folk station, you’ll hear song after song similar to this shit. it sounds nice but it’s wholly unoriginal.

LOL I guess you figured out a new chord progression, asasdaf. Way to break the mold, asshole. Nothing unoriginal about those lyrics.

  • Wandy Wand

I’ll try harder, asasdaf. I’m trying to think more ‘outside the box’ when it comes to chord progressions. I’m working on one now you may like better – it’s in the key of J# minor, and most of the chords are Greek letters and ampersands.
