MP3: Beat Happening – Run Down The Stairs
I challenge anyone to come up with a better/cheaper Christmas present than these Calvin Johnson-curated mixtapes available for $10. They range from “Bump Your Booty: Disco 45s on Independent Labels ’74-’79″ to “The Cavern Stomp!: British Beat and R&B 45s 63-65.” Snag one for the Beat Happening or music fan in your life.

i’ve got a better one, how about people buy the albums from the actual artists instead of giving calvin money for yet another thing he didn’t create. you have to stoop pretty low to run a major indie and steal music from all these bands.

I’m willing to bet that independent disco labels from the 70s aren’t still in print…

yeah but a lot of the stuff is in print, and to charge 10 bucks is a rip considering the actual tapes of the music he has zero rights to maybe runs him a dollar. point is i’ve seen the mix tapes and i know some of the artists on them, and well it kinda sucks to watch someone profit on others art.

h20 is right, those soviet-era rock and pop groups are going to be pissed that somebody dared to mix together their otherwise disjunct, unknown, and hard to find albums.
