[MP3] Electric 6: “Rubberband Man” (Spinners cover)
September 7th, 2010 by Matt

Oh man, I’ve been waiting a long time for this. Ever since I first got an email with the tracklist for the Electric 6′s new record Zodiac and found out that they had covered the Spinner’s classic “Rubberband Man” I’ve been jazzed to hear it and share it. So after a few rounds of emailing, I got permission to share it. Enjoy guys!
MP3: The Electric 6 – The Rubberband Man
I’m actually slightly surprised by how close they played it to the original. But really, it’s hard to convince yourself to stray too far from perfection. Gotta say that Dick Valentine’s vocals work really well with this R&B classic. Fingers crossed that it works its way into their live show and stays there!
Check out a great video of the Spinners playing the original after the break.

It’s just “Electric Six” by the way. Its acceptable that you didn’t know though because not many people pay attention to this great, great band. After “Gay Bar” they were written off as a comedic joke by many people and that was that. They have a very loyal fanbase though and continue to tour the hell out of this country (playing small bars and clubs) and it kills me to see them not be a LITTLE bit more successful than they are. They are fun, badass and extremely accessible and with all the pretentious indie crap that gets acclaim you’d think people would have a hard on for E6.

OSP, was there really need to be be so anal about that?
Just FYI, they were billed as ‘The Electric Six’ to begin with and on the Ghettoblaster Vol. 2 compilation CD they are printed as ‘The Electric Six’ so it’s perfectly acceptable to call them as such.

Haha. Yeah, that was a bit goofy. I mean, it’s not like I’m unfamiliar with the band — “Danger! High Voltage” was my ringtone for years. I did, however, get an email from their publicist asking me to fix the “the” in the name, so I guess they kinda do care.

Exactly. And I wasn’t trying to be anal……was just making a note.

Saw them at an Atlanta show last week. Phenomenal. For the record, I still refer to them as “The Electric Six”at times.
