the New Pornographers @ Lollapalooza 8.6.10

I spent most of Friday on the Budweiser stage side of Lollapalooza, hanging out and enjoying full sets — something I rarely get to do at festivals. The first full set I got to catch was one by the incomparable New Pornographers, complete with Neko and Dan. Really, I don’t think their set could have been any better. They opened with “Sing Me Spanish Techno,” brought out Dan to do “Myriad Harbor” and then went into “the Laws Have Changed.” They’ve got a lot of great songs and we probably got the greatest of that bunch. I didn’t think we’d get it, but they did “Mass Romantic” and it sounded perfect. That and the set-closing “Bleeding Heart Show” were definite festival highlights for me.

  1. I recently caught them TWICE in Seattle–my fourth and fifth times seeing them live, and I also saw them at Sasquatch this year–and they were perfect. Seriously one of the most consistently awesome bands I’ve ever seen (though I may be biased, since I think Neko is the absolute best). They played “Mass Romantic” at all three shows I saw this year, but only played “Letter From An Occupant” once. (We almost got it again on August 1, but Neko swapped it out for “Slow Descent Into Alcoholism.”)
