[MP3] new Busdriver: “Deer God”

June 23rd, 2010 by Matt

I wasn’t so keen on the last Busdriver track that we heard, but this new one is being a lot more kind to my ears. It could be because it’s based around the Monsters of Folk track “Dear God” and inspired by the Roots’ “Dear God 2.0″

MP3: Busdriver – Deer God (ft Open Mike Eagle)

“This time around for my Computer Cooties mixtape, I’ve taken the album opener “Dear God( Sincerely M.O.F.)” off of the Monsters of Folk debut, maimed it and cohearsed it into doing my bidding. The rendition is called “Deer God”. In it we take the original subject matter (dealing in the trepidations of god-fearing folk) and replace it with a series of questions concerning faith via wild accusations and finger pointing. Yay! Concious rap!

My good buddy Open Mike Eagle takes his chances with the premise, pouring his brand of verbal honey over the jagged edges of the production, and leaves more than a few kinks in the Faith-dome. It’s a fun-filled affair.

Of course, this is all inspired by the Roots rendition off of their latest studio album, “How I Got Over”. I just hope that the off-branded cynicism and tomfoolery of our version has added something to the conversation.

thanks a lot” – Busdriver
