Bit of late notice on this, but I’m confident you guys can still make it out. CD Central is having their annual Memorial Day concert/sale at the store. It’s 15% off all used CDs and DVDs with an extra 10% off if you show up on a bike for Bike Lexington. But of course, most of you will probably be there for the great tunes…

the National to play Lville in September with Owen Pallett

I normally don’t run with confirmed stuff, but Backseat Sandbar is reporting such good news that I’ll be happy to jump the gun a little bit. Apparently word on the street in Louisville is that the National and Owen Pallett will be performing at the Brown Theater on Sept 27. I won’t be adding it to the concert calendar just yet, but keep the date open…

[VIDEO/MP3] new Of Montreal: “Famine Affair” (live)

So as always I’m just kind of winging it with these new Of Montreal song titles. The youtube video labeled this as “Famine Affair,” so we’ll go with that. But whatever it’s being called, it’s sounding pretty great.

MP3: Of Montreal – Famine Affair (new, live)

Preorder for Of Montreal’s next record False Priest is coming sometime next month, which means the release date is just around the corner!

[MP3] new Still Flyin: “Higher Than Five”

I somehow missed this last week, but was reminded this week. As you may remember, Still Flyin’ song “Runaway Train” is one of my favorites of the year, so obviously I’m going to pay even more attention to any of their subsequent releases. “Higher Than Five”

MP3: Still Flyin – Higher Than Five
I don’t know who writes the bass lines in Still Flyin, but I might hire them to compose some walking around music for me. How rad would it be to have a half dozen bass lines like this playing when you strolled around town? I mean, nothing would top walking around to a nice Funkadelic line, but not every day is going to be that wild. This’ll just be for when I’m walking around town and feeling pretty good about life.

[MP3s] Shark? has a new album for you to download for free

Thanks to Earfarm for pointing out that Shark? just posted another free release for us to all download and enjoy. I haven’t had time to soak in this one, but I really enjoyed Noise Maker which sounded a bit like a raw, lo-fi version of the Strokes or a call back to 60s garage.

[MP3] new Anni Rossi: “Crushing Limbs”

Thanks to Bumper Shine and 4AD for pointing me to this new song by Anni Rossi.

MP3: Anni Rossi – Crushing Limbs

From 4AD:
About the song’s creation, Anni explains “I started using analog synthesizers alongside the viola when I demoed this song. It sparked my interest in making pop songs that initially feel upbeat and bright, but when you listen closely there is a darkness in the lyrics and the sounds that reveal themselves as you get to know the song better.”
