[SXSW] Lissie @ Mess With Texas 3.19.10

As thrilled as I was that MWT was running behind schedule enough to where I could catch Lissie, for some reason her set just really wasn’t clicking with me. On record she’s straight up Neko Case, but live she was just a touch too much mid-90s Lilith Fair. It was a nice set, but Lissie was one of the few acts I caught at SXSW where I left wishing I’d spent the time listening to her record instead.

hey there.. i know its lame to respond to a post about me ;) BUT i just got an alert about this and wanted to say something… i played 10 shows that week … that was the mess with tx party i believe? think that was my 6th show in 3 days… i had to be discerning about what i could put my voice thru at what point of what day.. so on… i think if you gave me another chance someday you might find that i am by far better in person than on any recording! and since this is the only negative post i’ve been turned onto ..felt the need to defend myself! ha. im sure there’ll be more negative things said about me to come.. so i have to learn that not everyone is gonna like me.. just hope you’re still open minded! :) thanks!

Hey Lissie,
Sorry if this seemed more negative than I meant for it to. I still enjoyed your set and was glad I caught you. However for whatever reason the live show sounded a bit different than what I had really fallen for on your record. I shot you an email explaining a bit more in detail, but I just wanted to (somewhat) explain publicly.

Lissie, your a girl of true grit……….your voice has real character, and watching you perform is an emotional ride. You feel what you sing, and then we do too!! Thanks for putting yourself out there. Mark in PA.
