Life's unpredictable. Sometimes you wake up in the middle of the night only to find that Jack White and Jay-Z have recorded a song together. "I just did a record with Jay-Z," White told GQ. "We did a song together a few weeks ago. It was incredible. I played him something that I've been kicking around for a while and he immediately came out with words for it. It's unbelievable sounding." The best part is that they'll both be at Bonnaroo...

My gut reaction is ‘dislike’. Indie rock and hip hop are two of my favorite genres anymore but I can’t see this being much more than another label orgy like the Linkin Park / Jay-Z mashup from awhile back

PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG JACK WHITE YOU MAGICAL GUITAR MAN

This could be dope. It could also suck. Lenny Kravitz and Hov was pretty sick on storm. Jack Whites a cut above Lenny in my book, hopefully its fantastic.

if it’s a blues/rap kinda thing or something similar to Blakroc it could be pretty cool.

Sorry if this sounds harsh or unreasonable but only someone who is completely ignorant could think that this will suck. Jack White is already a legend who has proven he is a musical prodigy that can create both lyrics that send chills down your spine AND guitar skills that make can take the musical communities breath away. His creativity and talent have made living legends like Jimmy Page, Tommy Iommi, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, and Steve Vai give him relentless credit and respect and remain confident of the reality that the existence of true musical talent and genius is still possible and has not died out. Jack White has made them realize that real rock stars can still surface.
As for Jay-Z. . . his 12 albums have only consisted of respectable and intelligent hip-hop unlike most of the trash that has seemed to take over the airwaves and media the past decade. Sure he tends to rap about money, bitches, hoes, and clothes like most rappers do that make hip-hop, for lack of better words, completely ignorant and disrespectful, but he still manages to show the world his remarkable ability to make groundbreaking beats and melodies that combine with an extensive and intelligent vocabulary. And also, you can’t talk about Jay-Z without mentioning his brilliant and iconic business mind. But that’s a whole nother story.
When I heard they did a song together I couldn’t have been more excited. It shows how open minded they both are and how dedicated they remain to pleasing such a wide variety of fans. This also demonstrates that they are part of a dying breed of artists who go the extra mile and put everything they’ve got into putting on a memorable live performance. If these two masters of modern music get together and make some music that they feel passionate and proud of, every music fan should feel the same. Whatever it is they’ve made, they obviously love it. Therefore it can’t be anything short of genius.
Give these guys the respect they deserve and trust that they wouldn’t do this unless they had some sick ideas. Jack White makes nothing but brilliant and passionate music with ALL of his bands ( and albums he’s produced from Loretta Lynn to The Greenhornes ) so I see NO logical reason to believe that anything he would consume his time with would result in a product that “sucks”. As for the Linkin-Park collaboration Jay-Z did. . yeah i’m not too big a fan of LP but that album was still gnarly as hell. It was a great idea to combine their genres and they made the best of it.

I’ll be there to watch Jack White make another legendary performance at Roo and I couldn’t be more excited to see the Blueprint preformed and hopefully he’ll throw in some of his classics. Together they should be able to make a very memorable performance for the ages. I’m not sure if they could have picked a better time to do so. BONNAROO!
If for some FUCKED up reason they come out and play some songs together that totally blow, I will not only cry and probably choose the fate of overdose at Roo, but I will also completely apologize and admit that I’m a fucking idiot. But I like my chances.
