the Ted Leo/Rx covers archive :: 74 covers and counting!
March 8th, 2010 by Matt

Ted Leo’s new album the Brutalist Bricks is out tomorrow and to celebrate I put together a collection of his covers. Now, normally it takes me quite a long time of bugging people, poking around message boards and going through old hard drives to come up with these lists. But this time I’ve got to give credit to the user madastronautkg at the Timorous Me message board for compiling the vast majority of these.
So spend today downloading and enjoying these covers, then tomorrow go pick up a copy of the Brutalist Bricks. And as always, if you’ve got a cover I don’t have included here, email me or drop a link in the comments! [and use Down ThemAll to snag all these at once!]

Shame you guys don’t have his cover of ‘Hybrid Moments.’ It’s something special.
Still, this is an overwhelming amount of awesome.

A million bucks to anyone with an mp3 of his cover of Johnny Appleseed (that number may come down some on appeal).

Awesome-thanks for this. Does anyone have the Government Issue medley he did at the last show at the 930 Club in DC?

“everybody wants to rule the world” as an mp3 here: http://bit.ly/bSeBIt kinda uncanny how much this sounds like it was always a Ted Leo song (cept for the lyric)
villain // Mar 18, 2010 at 1:01 pm
correction: the mp3 of Everybody Wants to Rule the world from http://soundcloud.com/tedleo sounds better.
dude // Mar 21, 2010 at 10:51 pm
I heard him do a cover recently, where it sounded like he was singing, “Ahh, Danger, Ohhh… Ohhh.” Does anyone know what this was or might be?
pachuco hands // Mar 22, 2010 at 12:08 am
Does anyone have Ted & Co. doing “The American Ruse”? He played part of it last night in Portland during some technical difficulties. It was incredible.

By the way, that “Six Different Ways” track is actually Chisel…not TL/Rx. It was on a compilation of DC bands doing Cure covers to raise money for Whitman Walker clinic…”Give Me the Cure”

OMG – Why was this post so hard to find again? A Google search for “The Ted Leo and the Pharmacists covers archive” totally failed, when those words are in this post exactly!
Anywhoo- so glad to find it again =)

This is a stellar collection. Thank you. Totally transformed my morning.

I love this list but there’s this one other cover he did when I saw him that I can’t find at all… it’s killing me. I don’t know the artist or title but at the end of the chorus he sings something like “every-thing chan-gess…..” Very melodic and peppy. If anyone has a clue what this song is I’d love it!

If anyone has his cover of ” I Love The Sound of Broken Glass” by Nick Lowe, please upload it!

Klucis // Sep 15, 2011 at 8:40 pm
Come on, guys – the Minor Threat song is “Filler,” not “Miller.”
Klucis // Sep 15, 2011 at 8:46 pm
And, i don’t know if you can consider “Cast a Shadow” as a “cover.” It comes from this video of him doing karaoke:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2Fo93Nrpf0
It’s a slippery slope to count karaoke as covers.
Matt // Sep 16, 2011 at 11:10 am
Klucis: I know. I ripped the audio from that karaoke video. I included it because it’s Ted singing the song. What I didn’t include, however, were songs from the karaoke session where TL/Rx were the backing band and fans sang songs (“Nazi Punks F*ck Off” etc). That’s what I think is worthy/not worthy of inclusion.
