Panda Bear, Jon Spencer Blues Exp. added to Pitchfork

March 4th, 2010 by Matt

Time Out NY just posted that Panda Bear and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion will be playing this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival. Super exciting news. If I had to guess, I’d say that JSBE will be doing a Friday set of a classic album, but we’ll see about that.

UPDATE: We got Broken Social Scene and some more great bands too.

Sidenote: am I the only one holding out on listening to the Panda Bear bootlegs because I don’t want to hear the new songs until I hear the studio versions? I don’t think I’ve ever avoided hearing bootleged new songs before, but I really think it’ll lessen the impact of the final product for me. Either that or I’m somewhat crazy.

If it makes you feel any better, the audio quality of those bootlegs are excruciating at best, so yeah, I think you’re probably making the right move.

I agree about the quality of the current Panda boots, not worth it. But listening to MPP boots before the album was released really helped build excitement and enhanced my overall experience with that album. seeing it from both sides

Well the things is, their music grows. So one boot will be different from the next, and so on, all the way until the album is released and even after that they still change up their songs. So I say listen to the boots. You’ll be familiar with the tunes and you’ll know how he’s changed.

Really excited to see Jon Spencer in the lineup- the guy’s basically a legend. If you haven’t heard Jon Spencer Blues Explosion you should really check it out- their first greatest hits album comes out this Tuesday. More info here: http://www.thejonspencerbluesexplosion.com/
