[MP3] Happy Hollows: “Under the Milky Way” (Church cover)

Apparently my blatant love of the new Happy Hollows record has paid off. Their label just asked if I’d like to premiere this cover of the Church’s “Under the Milky Way.” Uh, duh (and thanks!) guys.

And if you, like me, couldn’t place this song at first, perhaps you know it from the Donnie Darko soundtrack.

  1. Or, as I know it, from the Church album, ‘Starfish’.
Why another cover of “Milky Way”? Seems like I heard it sung by a chick in a car commercial recently. I really wish people wouldn’t mess with this song. I’d hate to see it beat to death like ‘Hallelujah’ and ‘Love Will Tear Up Apart’.

  2. Very nice cover, touching, and respectfully done. If this is an indication of HH influences, it only endears them to me more. I like the car comercial cover too. ;)

  3. Nice score. One of the top 10 songs ever written. Up there with ‘Night and Day’ and ‘Space Oddity’. I welcome as many covers of it as you can throw at me.

  4. Being a huge fan of the Church, it’s really nice to hear anyone cover them, especially a band as good as the Happy Hollows. That being said, I’d love to hear some of the rest of the Church’s amazing catalogue worked up by others. This version is one of the better covers I’ve heard, definitely.
