Yesterday at the record store, my coworker Mike and I were cleaning out hundreds of promo CDs from behind the counter. We wound up listening to a lot of stuff we’d been meaning to check out or just otherwise looked interesting, including BEAK> (on his suggestion). Apparently Geoff Barrow from Portishead is in the group, but seeing as I know next to nothing about Portishead, BEAK> had to sell me on their own merits.

How would I describe BEAK>’s “Pill?” Maybe if Menomena had an evil twin that was really into creeping around and being mysterious. It’s pretty far removed from my normal well worn tracks, but maybe that’s what’s drawing me to it (it’s definitely what’s drawing me to the new Liars record). Some tracks are more dynamic than others, but this is one record I’d prefer to listen to all the way through rather than dividing it up.
