Viagra pfizer online, If it's December at You Ain't No Picasso, then it's time for Mixmas. Every year I like to turn YANP over to some of my favorite bands to showcase some of their favorite songs through a themed mix. They pick a theme, five songs that fit the theme and then share a little about why they picked each one, viagra pfizer online. This year I'm also giving away a YANP shirt, so check below for the hint about tomorrow's mix.
MP3: These United States - Everything Touches Everything Viagra pfizer online, Over the past two years I've become more and more enamored with These United States. Maybe the biggest boon to my love was this year's release of Everything Touches Everything. And if you're wondering how they have the time/passion/skill to put out three albums in two years, Jesse's here to shed just a little light on that with his Mixmas theme, viagra pfizer online.
"Best Songs to Make a Song To" by Jesse Elliott of These United States
I'm sitting here in the middle of winter, knowing that it hasn't even reached the middle of winter yet, thinking about what'll be happening when the middle of winter comes, which'll be making another album with my bandmates. Viagra pfizer online, Because it's twilight and gray and crimson, I'm melancholy. Because we're about to make another album together, I'm frothing and bubbling (on the inside). Because I want this album to be good, I am listening to music that I consider great, viagra pfizer online. But that also has something of the maker's process offered up - some beautiful mysterious trick of the songwriting which allows the thing to exist wholly in the head of that one man or woman, and then - suddenly, magically, breaking out of that solo brain - to be shared.
Viagra pfizer online, Leif Vollebekk, "Northernmost Eva Maria" [Myspace link]
Let's make like a year and start with winter, long as we're here now anyway. Just snowed yesterday in Washington, DC. Not a strange thing where I'm from, but a strange thing here. People walk around with a different expression - no, not an expression, but a different idea in their head that you can just almost sort of start to see behind an expression, something like the flickering manic undercurrent of this song, never quite bursting into unrestrained joy, but pretty close. Close enough for comfort.
MP3: Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson - The Sound
Like most songs I love, I'm not sure I could say exactly what this one's about. Seems like it might be about everything. It's definitely about sound, and the songs we make of it. And it's definitely about being alone, and together with other people, which also might be a definition of the way we hang ourselves with music.
MP3: Paolo Conte - Gong-oh
Prolly the best song ever for dancing like a crazy person, alone. Gong-oh, play for me the Harlem Congo. The ghost of Chick Webb - I swing, I delight, I play. Except, you know, in Italian - so more crazy, more alone, more beautiful. In other words, the perfect song to think viscerally about what one song can mean to one person.
MP3: Birdie Busch - Hey Precious
Sometimes all it takes is three perfectly placed notes. You'll know which ones I mean soon as you hear em. Then Birdie'll change em up on you, but just slightly. Then you'll know em again, even better. Huh. You know, this song is about songs, too. I didn't even plan that, or think about it til just this moment. That's good, Birdie - you nailed it - "I'm going to sing it to you."
Revival, "Anniversary" [Myspace link
Revival is songwriting gold, through and through, so it's always hard to suggest a favorite of theirs to a friend. But somehow I always come back to the idea of inventing a new anniversary together. It's a perfectly simply beautifully heartwringing kinda statement, bookended as it may be by complete and utter loneliness on the one side and a pistol on the other. This gets at the center of winter, maybe life. We make things up that save us. (If yr smart enough to get Horses of War, track 8, Favorite One, runs a photo-finish second for perfectly simply beautifully heartwringing.)
Tomorrow's hint: the next band is a Berkley, CA pop group whose 2010 album is being produced by Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear.
