[VIDEO] Weezer: “I Want You To”

October 23rd, 2009 by Matt

For about a decade now, Weezer has refused to do what I want them to do. With the Green Album my wish was for them to be as good as their previous albums. Ever since then my desire has been for them to either blow my socks off like they used to, or be so bad that I can let them go. But they just can’t manage to be that bad. While I no longer call myself a “fan” of the band, they’ve had such a deep and influential part of my musical history that I just can’t let them go that easily.

That brings us to “(If You’re Wondering if I Want You To) I Want You To,” Weezer’s newest video. I’ve got to congratulate/encourage them on ditching the goofy modern rock radio sound and at least making an attempt to go for something a little more earnest. And really, the song is not that bad. But when you’re talking about a band that had some of the best songs of the 90s, “not that bad” is pretty bad. So Weezer, I’m begging you. Be horrible or be perfect. I know it’s not fair of me to ask, but you were perfect for so long that I can’t help it.
