Dandy Warhols @ Monolith 9.13.09

October 1st, 2009 by Matt

After Ok Go had a fantastic show on the Saturday of Monolith, I thought the Dandy Warhols might be able to replicate their success. After all, if one major label band who only had four songs I knew knocked their show out of the park, why couldn’t another one do it? Well, no matter how high my hopes were, lightning stubbornly refused to strike twice.

Now, I don’t mean to suggest that bands on major labels are bad or less likely to put on a good show. What I am saying is that the Dandy Warhols are a big band that got a little bloated and are unfortunately past their prime. They hardly moved and instead maintained an air of complete aloofness. Major bummer. The Dandy Warhols have easily 45 minutes worth of great material, but they didn’t play any during the 25 minutes I watched their set. The set was full of songs I’d never heard (two had practically the same chord progression as “We Used to be Friends”), performed half-heartedly.
