Deerhoof picture via their myspace page Last night NYC Taper gave us an unexpected treat. They taped Deerhoof’s set from All Tomorrow’s Parties and handed us MP3s that include two covers (Canned Heat & the Ramones) and one new song. New Deerhoof? Already? Get excited, fellas. Just got home, so I’ve only now been able to toss up a quick mention of the good news. The Flaming Lips are going to be on Colbert in about 10 minutes, performing a new song form their album Embryonic. Immediately following the show (so, at midnight) the entire album will be available for streaming [...]

The Walkmen @ Monolith 9.12.09
September 16th, 2009 by Matt
My new resolution this week is to either find where I lost my copy of Bows + Arrows years ago or buy a new copy. Holy jeez is that thing fantastic. And though I didn’t really understand at the time, that record left a huge impact on me when I was still in the beginnings [...]

Ok Go @ Monolith 9.12.09
September 16th, 2009 by Matt
I’d like to say that I was surprised how good Ok Go were at Monolith, but I’d be lying. The truth is, I feel like I was waiting for this day to come. You see, in a weird way, Ok Go were the first step in my career toward music blogging. In high school I [...]

Naturally there are rumblings of a tour, Coachella appearance and ATP curation, but this is the only thing that’s been presented as a source-backed fact. I’m only a moderate Pavement fan, but my [...]

Exclaim is now offering a full stream of Islands’ new album Vapours over at their web site. I’m only a few songs in and it’s sounding pretty good. I doubt it can topple Return to the Sea as my favorite Islands record, but I’m open to the idea.

[VIDEO] Clues: “You Have My Eyes Now”
September 15th, 2009 by Matt
I’m not a big Tim and Eric fan, but Tim Heidecker’s new video for Clues’ song “You Have My Eyes Now” is actually quite good. To go into any more detail would be robbing you of at least some of the enjoyment you’ll get from your first time watching the video, but suffice it to [...]
