On “Mona Lee,” the Sweet Serenades sound a bit like a less-twee version of Acid House Kings. They lose a bit of the Camera Obscura vibe in the process, but what’s left is just fantastic. It’s a simple story about a guy who would do anything to make a girl smile and all the emotional anguish it puts him through: “A hurricane is coming down. I’m holding on so desperately”
