Cursive @ CD Central 8.11.09

August 12th, 2009 by Matt

In what was easily the best free show to hit Lexington in some time, Cursive stopped by CD Central to do a quick acoustic show before their spot at the Dame later that night. Fans arrived almost two hours early, milled about, purchased a few things and then stood directly in front of the stage for well over an hour. Now, the funny part is that Cursive were almost 45 minutes late (well, I’m not quite sure for whom that’s funny) so there was quite a bit of standing around going on. But once they pulled up and plugged in, nobody seemed to mind the extended wait. I mean, hey, it was free and good.

I snapped photos for a while, then retreated to the back to watch the audience watch Cursive. For a noisy bunch of mostly-underagers, they were delightfully respectful during the instore. Everyone went wild between songs and then promptly shut up when Tim started talking or playing. Really they were pretty close to the perfect audience (congrats, Lexington!).

And the biggest treat of the night was that they covered the Cure’s “Lovecats.” After it was over, Tim joked that a lot of people in the audience probably thought he spent enough time trying to sound like Robert Smith without actually covering the band he so obviously tries to rip off. I’ve never had that thought before, but then again I’ve only heard a couple Cursive albums. But it was a funny bit of self-deprecation after a really good cover. I should have an MP3 of it up in just a little bit!

So big thanks to Cursive and big thanks to everyone who came out and waited for hours to see the band. Click below for more photos from the evening, including my girlfriend’s brother showing Tim his Ugly Organ tattoo. The band loved it and even snapped a picture of it themselves.
