Frankel’s new album Anonymity is the New Fame is packed full of all kinds of great songs — but not this one. “Know” is a Nick Drake cover that I’m happy to debut, mostly because it’s such a great cover.

Remember back before we were all sick of Jose Gonzalez? His cover of the Knife and Joy Division were some of my most played MP3s shortly after they debuted. This Nick Drake cover by Frankel is kind of like those, but with enough daring sprinkled in to make sure I’m not likely to tire any time soon. Now, I’m not saying it’s better than those Jose covers, but I am saying that the occasional pulse and distorted shimmer of the electric guitar give this song some much needed texture that Jose Gonzalez’s entire catalogue could benefit from.
