Yeasayer @ Pitchfork 7.18.09

July 25th, 2009 by Matt

After two failed attempts at seeing them, I was finally able to take in the majority of a Yeasayer show at Pitchfork. And true to everything I’d ever read or heard about the band, they were fantastic. Finally hearing “2080″ makes me feel like a more complete music fan, however silly that might sound.

After watching Yeasayer for about fifteen minutes, I went to meet some friends from Lexington who I was riding home with (I flew in from South Carolina — long story). I took their keys, threw my bag in the van and started walking back. No sooner than I had tossed my clothes — including a sweatshirt — into the van, did the sky turn dark and start pissing rain. But whereas it made for a depressing walk back from the van, it made for a strangely great way to see Yeasayer. The crowd didn’t seem to mind the rain and, in fact, used it as an excuse to grow even more raucous. But though the fans were wild, everyone was very respectful. Hats off to you, Yeasayer and hats off to you, Yeasayer fans.
