Ponytail @ Pitchfork 7.18.09
July 23rd, 2009 by Matt

Anyone that has ever told you that Ponytail’s show is like watching an 8-year-old on pixy stix that has inexplicably grown up listening to Deerhoof is absolutely correct. I felt like I was at some crazy slumber party, but it was completely awesome.

As good as Ice Cream Spiritual is, it just makes so much more sense when you see it live. “Beg Waves” is a good, spastic song to jam at home, but it’s so much better when it’s being blasted in your face while the band goes into equally spastic contortions on stage. Ponytail’s live show is the missing component to their sound that I feared I’d never experience.
If you’re a fan of Ice Cream Spiritual, go see Ponytail live and be blown away. If you hate it, stay away because it’ll likely destroy you to see them live. If you’re on the fence, screw it, go see them and hopefully fall in love.

More photos after the jump.
