Bowerbirds @ Pitchfork 7.18.09
July 22nd, 2009 by Matt

I think that out of all the bands I really didn’t know that much about, Bowerbirds impressed me the most at Pitchfork. They and Japandroids probably tie on that one (oops! spoiler alert: Japandroids were good).
Bowerbirds were really suited to the third stage. Not to say that they should have been delegated to the smallest stage possible, but it’s just that seeing them with a small, densely packed, appreciative audience was, I’m sure, better than watching them putter in front of a large crowd that was just sitting through them in order to get a good spot for The National/Beirut.
Then, much later during the National’s set, the girl from Bowerbirds rode up to me and Dave and asked if we were babes. We said “partially” and, I think, completely confused them. They told us just to say yes, we did and she rode off never to be seen again.
Pitchfork: a place that makes David Lynch’s work seem completely normal.

More photos after the break.
