Even though I’m now solidly into my vacation (today: kayaking), but that doesn’t mean great music has to take a break. Shortly before I left, I got a tip off to the existence of our first listen to the Hidden Camera’s new album Origin:Orphan.

As someone who’s been a fan of the Hidden Cameras for a while (but not as long as I should have been, admittedly) it’s been really interesting to see where Joel’s songwriting has wandered. If “Walk On” is any indication, Origin:Orphan is going to be his heavily-orchestrated, dark work. It’s quite a contrast to their earlier, more sparse songs that floated along with an acoustic guitar and some violins, but I’ve got to say that I’m pretty impressed with this first track.
The real first single, though, is “In the NA,” so we’ll see how that one holds up. Origin:Orphan is out Sept 22 on Arts & Crafts.
