Snoop Dogg @ Bonnaroo 6.14.09

Snoop, like Springsteen, is one of those fantastic artists that have become classics but still kept up the quality of their live show. With the Boss it's because he's still got the energy of guys half his age, but with Snoop it's all about his stage presence. When Snoop slowly paces the stage, I'm not reminded of other aging rappers (sorry, GZA -- your KY show was lame), but of the king lion who has ascended so far up the ranks that he doesn't have to hunt any more. Snoop knew he had thousands of people extremely excited to see him (possibly why he was about 20 minutes late), so he just gave us what we came to see: a smooth operator at the top of his game. And I have to add that the above photo is probably my favorite that I took at Bonnaroo 2009. Not really because Snoop's doing anything all that interesting, but because I got both him and the topless girl with weed pasties at the side of the stage in the same shot. How many of those do you have at your shows, Every Band Who Isn't Snoop Dogg?
