[MP3] new Starlight Mints: “Paralyzed”

The Starlight Mints’ new album Change Remains is one that still don’t feel like I’ve fully grasped. In a discography full of funkystrange records, this might go down as their “weird one.” “Zoomba” is sweet and now you get another song to help make up your mind. Here’s “Paralyzed.”

MP3: Starlight Mints – Paralyzed
I think “Paralized” is a really good song, but a really good song that sort of lost the track somewhere along the production. The melody and chord progression are classic Starlight Mints fare, but the spacey vibe and too-strong drums detract from what could have been a great song. But maybe I’m in the wrong place to judge. I think the Mints are best at the dark slink of “Black Cat” or the orchestral hook of “Seventeen Devils.” I’m not a giant fan of “Paralyzed,” but really though, “Zoomba” is solid and the rest of the album is worth your time too.
