I would say that Robyn Hitchcock really surprised me with how great his show was… but I honestly wasn’t that surprised. I’ve only progressed slightly beyond a singles fan of Robyn’s, but I knew he wasn’t one to half-ass it. Plus, he was backed by the Venus 3 — including R.E.M.’s Peter Buck — so it’d be hard not to explode away when you’re strapped to such a powerful rocket.

Robyn played a couple tunes off his upcoming record Goodnight Oslo. “What You Is” sounded great and for a minute convinced me that it was an old song of his that I’d known for years. But nope, just a new song that’s got the power of his ’80s material.
