[VIDEO] Johnny Cash does Danzig’s “Thirteen” live in ’94
June 7th, 2009 by Matt
Last night I caught The Hangover, a day or two behind most of my friends. In addition to being hilarious, it also featured Danzig’s “Thirteen” as an oddly-fantastic title song. That led — as it usually does — to a little late-night Youtubing and the discovery of this great video of Johnny Cash playing the song live in 1994.
Cash tells the story of being introduced through Rick Ruben to Glenn Danzig, who had written “Thirteen” for him (Danzig’s version from The Hangover is from his ’99 album 6:66: Satan’s Child). Apparently it wasn’t until the song was already recorded that Cash knew the “Glenn” who wrote him the song was actually the infamous Glenn Danzig.
