Bedtime @ Red Mile Round Barn 5.19.09
May 20th, 2009 by Matt

Last night’s show at the Red Mile Round Barn was just fantastic. Black Moth Super Rainbow were superb, but the real story here is that we’ve got two very solid local bands that took the opportunity to shine as openers.
Until last night, I hadn’t seen Bedtime play in well over a year. I missed them at CD Central’s July 4th party last year because they played kind of early and I hadn’t caught them around town any. So it’s for that reason that I was a little confused with how they sounded; it was a lot more raw and riff-filled than I remembered. Last I checked, they were a soft piano pop band that I rather enjoyed. But apparently they used their down time to transform themselves into a really rocking live act.
I asked James why I didn’t recognize any songs from their set and he confirmed my suspicion that they played all new, non-recorded material. Not to slight the last album they put out, but I can’t wait to get a copy of the songs they were jamming out last night. They’ve got a few dates coming up with Cymbals Eat Guitars and these new songs put Bedtime in a position to be a great opener for them. There were a lot of jammy sections where all the band members got to dabble in distortion and let loose for a bit. And though I wouldn’t have guessed it two years ago, it suited them quite well.
Oh yeah, and that is a Billy Ray Cyrus shirt James is wearing. Fun fact: he went to the same high school as BRC. Kentucky pride, man.

More photos after the break.
