While I was admiring former Gang of Four bassist Dave Allen’s redesign of his music/tech blogPampelmoose, I noticed that he posted a previously-unheard song by his new group Faux Hoax. Comprised of Dave Allen, Danny Seim from Menomena and a few friends, Faux Hoax (pronounced “Folks”) has a new 7″ on Polyvinyl for their song “Your Friends Will Carry You Home.” That song, however, is not the one Dave shared. Instead we got one of the bonus download songs that come free when you order the 7″. Pretty sneaky/generous, Dave.

It always makes me so happy when members of established, seminal music groups have fantastic taste in collaborators out of the new crop of innovators. Hearing that David Byrne was going to be teaming up with Dirty Projectors not only made sense, but warmed my heart. Nothing’s worse than hearing someone you respect team up with a young artist you wouldn’t waste your time. But having Dave Allen of Gang of Four team up with one of my favorite drummers from one of my favorite young bands is just too great. And this is one of those rare cases where the team-up is as good as it sounds on paper. Here’s hoping for a tour/full-length/something.
