[MP3] new Starlight Mints: “Zoomba”

I have no problem saying that the Starlight Mints are one of the most underappreciated bands out there today. I love all their albums and was delighted today to find that they’re keeping the three-years-between-albums streak alive with Change Remains. Fingers crossed that it also keeps up the awesome albums streak. It’s out in June 9 on iTunes and July 21 physically on Barsuk. Here’s the advance MP3 for us all to collectively enjoy.

MP3: Starlight Mints – Zoomba
The Starlight Mints’ lyrics often get abstract and a little weird, but “Zoomba” might have set a new high water mark. It’s a pastiche of strange imagery and near-familiar phrases set over a paranoid, lurching backing. I would say it could most closely be recreated at home by taking a hit of acid and watching a film noir while someone reads you nursery rhymes… I think we can all agree that that’s a theory best left untested. Let’s just stick to listening to “Zoomba” and call it a day.
