Last year’s reissue of Rodriguez’s album Cold Fact blindsided me with its beauty and with the idea of something so good could have remained underground for such a long time. Really though, it should have come as no surprise since the album was reissued on Light in the Attic. Whether reissuing classic stuff like Os Mutantes or new albums from the Black Angels, they rock out. So this year I was really looking forward to the second Rodriguez album Coming from Reality.

Coming From Reality really one-ups Rodriguez’s history of sounding like a psychedelic, more abstract Bob Dylan. I’ll never understand what “Heikki’s Suburbia Bus Tour” is about, but I doubt that’ll ever really bother me. The funny thing is, this free MP3 from the album isn’t even close to my favorite song on the album. “Climb Up on My Music” is a fantastically produced, lyrically winding pop gem that I’m sure I’ll have on repeat the whole summer. “Heikki’s…” is great too, though. Really the whole thing’s just great.
