[Record Store Day] Ben Sollee @ CD Central 4.18.09
April 20th, 2009 by Matt
Ben Sollee was a fantastic, almost last-minute treat for Record Store Day. A few weeks ago we were wondering who we could get to round out our lineup… and Ben walked into the store. A short conversation later and he had agreed to play. What a guy. I only got to catch a handful of [...]

[VIDEO] Of Montreal debut new song “Coquet Coquet”
April 20th, 2009 by Matt
This might be the most immediately-grabbing Of Montreal song I’ve heard since they played “Feminine Effects” on MPR. It’s got the strength of Satanic Panic-era Of Montreal, but the production of their recent glam rock path. It’s wild and one to look forward to for Thursday’s show in Madison.

[Record Store Day] Chico Fellini @ CD Cental 4.18.09
April 19th, 2009 by Matt
After falling for Chico Fellini’s debut record and seeing them live, I’m blown away that they aren’t signed to a mid-sized indie label and getting a lot more attention. I’d heard that they were fantastic live, and it’s true; Chico Fellini killed it on Record Store Day. MP3: Chico Fellini – Hot In true Lexington [...]

[Record Store Day] Cricket Press @ CD Central 4.18.09
April 19th, 2009 by Matt
Brian and Sara Turner were nice enough to set up shop at CD Central for Record Store Day and print up a whole slew of tshirts, bags and whatnot. They also brought out a few dozen of their best screenprints to sell to eager music fans. Cricket Press are easily some of the best in [...]

[VIDEO] Thao Nguyen covers the Lovin Spoonful’s “Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind?”
April 19th, 2009 by Matt
Thanks to Dodge for pointing this one out to me. Thao Nguyen recorded a cover of the Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind” for her half of a Record Store Day split with the Thermals. This video is sock puppets singing along to the sugary goodness.

[VIDEO] Grizzly Bear play their song “Knife” in the style of José González
April 19th, 2009 by Matt
Kind of an old video here, but one that I’d never seen. This video from 2006 shows Dan and Ed goofing off and playing and singing “Knife” in the style of José González. I think Ed explained it best… Hey, everyone. So what started out as Dan and I after a few drinks wanting to [...]

[Record Store Day] Robert Schneider @ CD Central 4.18.09
April 19th, 2009 by Matt
CD Central kicked off Record Store Day 2009 with one of Lexington’s best musicians. Robert Schneider of the Apples in Stereo was, as usual, a fuzzy ball of sunshine and smiles as he bounced through a decade and a half of his main band and side projects’ material. Though he forgot to write out a [...]

[VIDEO] Of Montreal debut new song “Like a Tourist”
April 18th, 2009 by Matt
Big thanks to the folks at The E6 Townhall for digging up this video of Of Montreal playing a new song live in North Carolina. For now the song’s being called “Like a Tourist,” but we’ll probably figure out the real name sooner or later. NYC Taper was supposed to record at least one of [...]
