[MP3] Super Furry Animals: “Moped Eyes”

April 28th, 2009 by Matt

I heart Super Furry Animals wildly, but for some reason forgot to listen to their new album when it came out online a month or so ago. And when I got a promo CD mailed to me I took it to work and jammed it out there for a few week — completely forgetting to post about it here. What kind of blogger puts real life ahead of cyberspace?

MP3: Super Furry Animals – Moped Eyes
I don’t really know where Dark Days/Light Years is going to fall in SFA’s catalogue. It’s not really their weirdest, but it’s also not their poppiest — though it does make attempts to take both crowns at different points. I think this is the album that has traces of all their previous albums. It’s like a career retrospective, except all the songs are new. “Moped Eyes” was the first standout on my inaugural listen, so I picked it to share. It seems to combine two overwhelmingly popular 60s movie genres (space exploration and spy novel) into a combined theme song. And maybe we can also throw some Fellini in there, given that the song is (apparently) about mopeds.

    “Zip up and zig zag away;
    I can see through your lies, cuz you got moped eyes.”

    I think hes referring to someones eyes darting around as they tell him lies, as this is a tell for when someone is lying. “zip up” the truth perhaps? and zig zag your eyes like a moped weaving through busy traffic. just my interpretation.
