[SXSW] NASA @ Stubb’s 3.20.09

March 24th, 2009 by Matt

NASA was a pleasant surprise at the Spin/Myspace day party at Stubb’s. Going in, I had no idea that Squeak E Clean (half of NASA) was going to be DJing between bands. The only part of his performance I caught was the part between Glasvegas and Echo and the Bunnymen, which wasn’t exactly the ideal portion to see.

NASA’s Spirit of Apollo is one of my favorite records of the year so far. In fact, I’m listening to it right now. But poor Squeak E Clean was getting no help from the sound crew, who he kept signalling about monitor/sound issues. At one point during the NASA remix of the Yeah Yeah’s new song “Zero” (featuring his sister Karen O), the sound cut off entirely. Shame, since it was sounding awesome. But he took it in stride, chalking it up to an electrical issue on stage and restarting the song.
